My good friend over at “Blessed Motherhood” just linked to a great little writing challenge called “5 Minute Friday”.
According to the challenge’s origins over at “The Gypsy Mama” we should write for five minutes flat on Fridays. We write because we want to, not because we have to. We write for fun, for joy, for discovery. We just write without worrying if it’s just write or not.
Won’t you join us?
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. Please visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them.
OK, are you ready? Give me your best 5 minutes on:
Do you ever wake up in the middle of a dream and wonder what was real and what was the lingering after-dreamy thoughts swimming around in your mind?
I do, often. I usually have such vivid dreams but during those few moments of waking I often feel like those brightly coloured adventures are slipping through my fingers as I try to grab at them. What was real? What is real now? The feel of my bed? the sounds I hear? The light outside of my slowly blinking eyes?
Were all those fleeting emotions real? Or does being in a dream make those emotions not real? Just dream emotions?
Sometimes I wake up so wrapped up in those dream emotions that when they fade I am so sad. Later on in the day or even later in the week I might feel something and it’s a glimpse of remembrance of that dream and the emotions attached to it. Something wonderful or sad or exciting. Do they count as real?
We spend so much time sleeping and our subconscious does such a great job of keeping us sane by giving us dreams that one has to wonder whether or not we can count those sleeping hours as real-spent time or just nothing-time; dark hours killing time until our bodies have rested and we can wake up in the real world.
Do you ever wish you had stayed in a dream? Wished that those moments were actually real, even just for a little while until that dream concluded itself? I know I have. If I can remember them later.
