It’s beginning to look a lot like…the last few days before Christmas! Gah!

Are you ready?

Are you stockings all hung by the chimney with care?
Do you still have 52 people to buy presents for?
Are you just a little bit panicky that you’re not quite ready, like me?
Or are you relaxing in the evenings sipping apple cider or hot coco as you listen to Boney M’s Mary’s Boy Child and gazing at the twinkle lights on your tree?

Honestly, I feel like I could use a few more weeks. Not to get a lot done, just to enjoy the season. I’ve had a busy few weeks and this is the first Christmas at my new job. It’s different, that’s for sure but we don’t really slow down until after Christmas. That means I haven’t really been out anywhere doing any Christmasy-type things.

So, while we have a few more days and maybe some wintry, twinkle light-filled days after Christmas to get out an enjoy the holiday spirit of things, here is a list for you…

6 Ways to Get Out and DO Christmas

Butchart Gardens – If you can swing it, this special place is the perfect outing to get bundled up, grab some hot coco, and wander around the fantastic lights displays. If you bring the kiddos, make sure to grab a Scavenger Hunt list at the Info Booth to keep them busy looking for the characters from the “12 Days of Christmas” carol. You can also do a bit of skating on their outdoor ice rink! There are often carolers and a brass band for entertainment, and yummy hot meals at the Blue Poppy Restaurant. I usually have a season’s pass so I can hop out to the Gardens anytime and even bring my little furry sidekick, Willow.

Centennial Square Ferris Wheel – For a more bustling activity after some downtown shopping or a meal out, stop by the Square behind City Hall for lights, music, and a ride on the winter Ferris Wheel! In your home town, check out what local events your city has going on and pick one or two to do with family or friends.

City Lights Tour – Around Victoria, we have so many wonderful homeowners who deck out their houses, lawns, and even full garages with Christmas lights and motion displays.
Here’s a link to the Victoria Lights Tour map put out by our local paper.

Chemainus Theatre – “A Christmas Story” is one of my favourite Christmas movies and now you can be a part of the live audience as you watch Randy and Ralphie navigate the tricky days before the Big Guy arrives. Playing until the end of December. Or check out any other live theatre or music concerts.

Movie Night Out – Beat the cold with some warm popcorn and catch a movie or two this holiday season with friends, the kids, or even on your own. Here are a few recently out or coming out that I know I want to see: Rouge One: A Star Wars Story, Moana, Passengers, Sing, Hacksaw Ridge, Assassin’s Creed, Hidden Figures

Games Night In – Grab some treats or Christmas baking and invite a few folks over for a good old fashioned games night! There’s nothing better on a snowy or rainy night than staying inside and getting together for some card or board games. Some of my favorite groups games are: Head’s Up (played on an iPad or iPhone), Anomia, new favourite Mille Bournes or go here to find out a bunch more of my fav games!
